Ryan Sidebottom is the shock name included in the England team for the second Test with the West Indies.
The wonderfully monikered Nottinghamshire left-arm pie thrower is a surprise inclusion.
Although the Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney, didn’t want to be drawn on whether his selection was simply to make everyone chuckle.
He said, with a straight face, “Ryan has been a consistent performer for Nottinghamshire over the last two seasons, is familiar with the Headingley pitch through his time with Yorkshire and deserves a further opportunity at this level.”
Captain Michael Vaughan (broken finger) and all-rounder Andrew “Pedalo, anyone?” Flintoff (ankle) missed the drawn first Test at Lord’s but could both be named in the squad.
[thanks to the chaps at rainnoplay for the flintoff gossip]
